The Greene County basketball teams faced three tough opponents last week, falling to South Hamilton, Glidden-Ralston and Roland-Story, as their quest for a win this season continues.
The Rams were scheduled to play again on Tuesday at home against Nevada. They’ll host West Marshall in a Rams Against Cancer event on Friday and Kuemper Catholic on Saturday. On Dec. 19, Greene County will travel to Saydel High School.
Ram girls – The Rams traveled to South Hamilton Dec. 5 to take on the Hawks. Being held to less than eight points per quarter, the Rams were unable to get ahead, falling 59-24.
Emma Shipley led the Rams in points scored, putting 11 points on the board with one three-point shot made. Makenna Ebersole had nine points and Esther Van Horn scored two. Payton Kokenge led in rebounds with nine, with two steals. Shipley had four rebounds, two blocks and three steals. Ebersole added four rebounds and one steal.

On Thursday, the Rams hosted Glidden-Ralston, falling 42-26. Emma Shipley led once again in points, putting 14 on the board with two three-points shots made. She also had seven rebounds with one block and two steals. Kokenge scored five points, Pittman added three. Shipley and Pittman each had seven rebounds.

Friday night’s game brought the Rams face to face with the 12th ranked team in class 3A, Roland-Story in Story City. The Rams fell 74-23 against the Norsemen.
The top scoring Ram was Emma Shipley, putting 11 points on the board. Sara Morlan scored four with Alaina Heard adding three points to the board. Shipley saw the most rebounds of the night as well with five, adding one block and one steal. Kokenge and Morlan had two rebounds each. Pittman led in assists with three.

Ram boys – At South Hamilton the boys lost only six points, 60-54. Greene County trailed by only one point at the end of the first quarter, but were down by 10 at the end of the second and third quarters. In the fourth, the Rams staged a comeback but ran out of time.
Leading the Rams were Brynley Ruzicka, putting 20 points on the board after making six three-point shots, Nathan Behne and Gabe Ebersole with eight rebounds and three steals each, and Behne and Ruzicka with three assists each.

Thursday’s game was a frustrating 41-40 home court loss against Glidden-Ralston. The Rams stuck close to the Wildcats but were unable to top the 3-2 team. The Rams trailed by one at the break, 22-21 but fell behind 34-29 after three frames. The Rams outscored the Wildcats in the fourth but came up short when the final buzzer sounded. Ebersole put up 10 points with Ruzicka scoring nine and Behne adding eight. Isaac Carman had six rebounds and one steal with Ebersole rebounding five balls. Trey Schlling had four assists.

The Rams took a road trip to Roland-Story High School on Friday, falling 61-28 to the Norsemen. Greene County trailed throughout the game, scoring only six points in the first half, with the Norsemen putting 41 on the board in the same amount of time.
Behne had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals in the game. Stream saw five points added to the boards while Nick Madsen scored four points for the Rams.
